1) What is this?

Cutline SVG Generator is a free tool that creates cutter-ready SVG files from your transparent PNG sticker images. It automatically traces around your artwork and generates a precise cut path that cutting machines and print shops can use.

Included FREE with TomsBGRemover (no install needed — just run the EXE).

2) Why you need it

If you're making stickers, decals, or print-and-cut products, you usually need:

1) Your artwork
  • A transparent PNG (your design)
2) A cut line
  • A vector path telling the machine where to cut

Many cutters and print shops expect a vector cut path (often delivered as an SVG). Manually drawing cutlines in design software is slow and tedious — this tool does it automatically.

Perfect for: Sticker makers, Etsy sellers, print-on-demand products, vinyl decals, Cricut/Silhouette workflows, and print shops.

3) Where to find it in your ZIP

In your TomsBGRemover release folder, you’ve added:

  • Image In – where users should place images they want to process
  • Image Out – where users should save the transparent output PNGs

The Cutline SVG Generator lives inside your package and is meant to be used after you already have clean transparent PNGs (usually created by TomsBGRemover).

Important: This tool only works properly with transparent PNG files. If the PNG has no transparency, it will be skipped.

4) Quick start (fastest way)

  1. Use TomsBGRemover to create transparent PNGs.
  2. Put your transparent PNGs into a folder (example: Image Out).
  3. Copy CutlineSVG.exe into that same folder.
  4. Double-click CutlineSVG.exe.
  5. Click Generate SVG Cutlines.
  6. Done — your SVG files appear in a new svg subfolder.
Default settings work for most users. You can tweak padding and smoothing if you need a different cut style.

5) How it works (step-by-step)

  1. Create transparent PNGs
Remove backgrounds using TomsBGRemover (or another tool).
  2. Place CutlineSVG.exe with your PNGs
The tool scans the folder it’s running from. Keeping the EXE in the same folder as your PNGs is the simplest method.
  3. Run the app
    Double-click CutlineSVG.exe.
  4. Adjust settings (optional)
Padding, smoothing, and embedding can be changed depending on your cutter workflow.
  5. Generate cutlines
    Click Generate SVG Cutlines.
  6. Collect results
Finished SVGs are written to the svg folder.

6) Settings explained

Cutline Padding (0–25px)
  • Controls the space between your artwork and the cut path.
  • 0px = tight cut (good for many stickers)
  • 10–15px = common “sticker border” feel
  • Increase padding if your design has thin bits sticking out.
Smooth Cutline (recommended: ON)
  • Rounds corners and reduces jagged edges.
  • Helps produce professional looking cutlines.
Embed PNG (recommended: ON)

Embeds your original PNG artwork inside the SVG so the SVG becomes a self-contained file. Many workflows prefer this because you can send one file to a print shop and it includes everything.

Preview note: If you see a grey outline in some previews, that is often part of the artwork (like a white border/shadow) and is normal.

7) Output files

For each transparent PNG, the tool generates an SVG containing:

  • Your original artwork (embedded if enabled)
  • A red cut line path around the artwork
Cut line color: The cut path is red (#FF0000), which many cutting tools recognize as a standard cutline color.
Where files go
  • Creates a folder named svg in the same folder as the EXE.
  • SVG output files are saved inside that folder.

8) Tips for best results

Start clean
  • Use high-quality transparent PNGs (TomsBGRemover is ideal for this).
  • Avoid semi-transparent “fuzzy” edges if you want razor clean cutlines.
  • If your PNG has no transparency, it will be skipped.
Choose padding wisely
  • 0px for tight cuts
  • 10–15px for a classic sticker look
  • Increase padding for spiky shapes or fine protrusions
Recommended default: Smooth Cutline ON + Embed PNG ON.

9) Troubleshooting

If something fails, check this first:
  • Are your PNG files in the same folder as CutlineSVG.exe?
  • Do your PNGs actually have transparency?
  • Did Windows block the EXE? (Right-click → Properties → Unblock)
Error: “No PNG files found”
  • Make sure your PNG files are in the same folder as the EXE.
  • Make sure the files end with .png.
Skipped: “No transparency detected”
  • This image does not have a transparent background.
  • Use TomsBGRemover to remove the background first.
Error: “No valid contour found”
  • The image may be too small, too empty, or have unusual transparency.
  • Try a different image or increase padding slightly.
  • Check that the PNG actually contains a solid visible subject (not nearly invisible).
