Frequently Asked Questions
Straight answers to the questions creators actually ask. If something's still unclear, support is one click away.
Does TomsBGRemover work offline?
Yes. All image processing happens locally on your Windows PC. No images are uploaded to any server.
Does the app upload my images anywhere?
No. There is no cloud processing. Your images remain on your machine at all times.
What image types work best?
Clear subjects with good contrast work best. Product photos, illustrations, logos, and well-lit people or pets usually produce the cleanest results.
Why do some images still need manual tuning?
Real-world images are messy. Hair, fur, motion blur, and busy backgrounds sometimes need small adjustments using mask sensitivity, feathering, or edge cleanup.
What's the difference between AI Mode and Auto AI Mode?
AI Mode gives you direct control over quality settings. Auto AI analyses the image and fills in visible, editable settings. In Batch, Auto AI can decide settings separately for each image.
What is Feather / Mask Strength?
Mask sensitivity controls how aggressively the subject is separated. Feather softens edges to reduce harsh cut lines or halos.
How do I make sticker borders?
Enable Sticker Mode and choose a border from 0–25 px. You can also use shadow, glow, cut-out styles, anti-aliasing, and split-component exports.
Is the upscaling AI-based?
No. The 2× and 4× options use high-quality Lanczos resize with sharpening. The app labels this honestly rather than calling it AI super-resolution.
Does GPU acceleration work on my system?
GPU acceleration via DirectML is optional and hardware-dependent. If unavailable, the app automatically falls back to CPU processing.
Where are settings and logs stored?
TomsBGRemover.ini and TomsBGRemover.log are stored beside the program. You can delete the INI to reset settings or disable the debug log in Settings.
Is TomsBGRemover really free?
Yes. Version 2.1 is completely free with no trial period, licence key, account, subscription, or feature lock.
